A Peek Inside Common House, Karjat’s New Craft Brewery

Common House

The Common House brewery in Karjat is a perfect brewcation you didn’t know you needed. Nestled in the 170-acre Oleander Farms, it is a 136 seater microbrewery which serves craft beer alongside comfort food and live music. Oleander Farms, which is filled with trees and lawns, the founders of Common House knew that they can make an ambience for a beer experience that has never been offered to the people of Mumbai & Pune in the past. It led them to create a beer menu which is super fresh, simple and exciting.

“When we decided to open a new outlet in Karjat after Saltt, we wanted to do something different and we chose to open a microbrewery. It was a dream of a decision and it made us excited. We invested in some amazing golden Brewery tanks which would be installed right on our farm inside the outlet to give the experience some more value. As we started working on the concept, we decided to curate something that suits a ‘getaway’ experience.” says Ayush Sahani, Director, Common House.

After successfully launching Saltt, a multi-cuisine restaurant perched upon the lush Oleander Farms, Common House is next in line to fill the microbrewery/beer garden gap in the space that also houses a petting zoo, an antique car gallery, and lush green lawns. Common House brings people together over freshly brewed craft beers.

Beers at Common House

The craft beer program at Common House is all about brewing easy and sessionable beers. One can start off by picking a Rauchbier, which is a German-style smoked lager, a refreshing Hefeweizen, a bright and citrusy Belgian Witbier or an English Brown Ale, known for its distinctive chocolate and toasty notes.

Helmed by the Master Brewer, Abhijit Salvi, the craft beer program at Common House will include experimentation of unique beers with more flavourful and native ingredients in play. “We decided to start with a thought of brewing some fresh & simple beers during our pre-opening/ trial months before we experiment into the ideas of unique beers we had, as and when we get more comfortable with the process of brewing.” says Ayush.

When asked about experimenting with new beer styles and native ingredients, Ayush responded saying “We decided to start with a thought of brewing some fresh & simple beers during our pre-opening/ trial months before we experiment into the ideas of unique beers we had, as and when we get more comfortable with the process of brewing. The menu we aim to make is inspired by our life at the Farm - Full of Nature, Fruity, Floral & Grainy. Which meant a lot of Unique IPAs, Ciders, Lagers, Stouts & more which would be also made using Home-Grown ingredients. And with time we also aim to have our ‘GrainToGlass’ menu in place.”

To keep their consumers engaged, Common House also offers brewery tours upon request and they are not far away from organising workshops. “We curate live music sessions . Sessions that aren’t very common even in the city. We plan on entertaining and elevating the whole drinking experience by curating the best electronic, hip hop or Unique beats with different instruments.” responds Ayush.

As they march through the early days, the microbrewery will be coming up with summer ales such as Ratnagiri IPA that is infused with Mangoes, a Kokum Gose - sour ale with Kokum fruit infusion along with a Rice Lager.

“At Common House, it’s all about elevating that ‘outskirts’ experience and giving those who seek a modern, comfortable escape from the clutches of city life, a complete experience,” says Ayush Sahani & Aaliya Ahuja, Director, Oleander Farms. While we’ll always appreciate the nostalgia associated with unpredictable dhaba stops, there’ll always be room to upgrade to a not so common elevated farm brewery experience.

The microbrewery is located next to Saltt, Oleander Farms, Karjat Chowk Road, Vavarle Village Karjat, Maharashtra 410206
