To avoid any more huge crowd gatherings outside wine shops, the central government suggested states to consider alcohol home delivery amidst the lockdown. This decision has brought some joy into the lives of all common Indians, who so far had been bearing the rough summers without any beer.

But before you move forward, be warned, your liquor bottles are going to cost more because of the raised excise duties states have levied on them. For example, in Delhi, they have already imposed a 70 percent special corona fee on liquor after starting e-tokens on May 7, 2020. And now, other states are also in talks with food aggregators like Swiggy and Zomato to consider more possibilities for home delivery.

And so without further delay, here is how you can receive alcohol home delivery, depending on the state you live in. Be warned, even though liquor may be available in certain parts of your state, it is likely possible that your city hasn’t resumed this service yet.

List of state-wise websites and apps to get alcohol home delivery

1. Delhi

Go to www.qtoken.in and click on “Apply for Liquor Purchase Token. Be warned, only 160 shops are open in the Capital and the website issues only 50 tokens per hour. You must then fill in your details, select the wine shop closest to you. Choose your items and then the website will issue an e-token that mentions the time window during which you will be permitted to visit that particular wine shop and pick up your order. Be aware that you will have to carry the Government ID, whose details you mentioned in the form along with you. Your limit is capped at 9 litres of alcohol per person, or one beer case. You must wear a mask when you go to the wine shop and no more than five people will be allowed in the shop at a time.

2. Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu government has launched an application for home delivery of liquor. It works in the same manner as your Swiggy and Zomato apps. You basically have to just download the TASMAC Online App, feed in your details, add your order to the cart and pay online. Your liquor will then be delivered to your doorstep.

3. West Bengal

If you’re in West Bengal and over 21 years of age, you can place orders through the State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO). Log on to the website: https://excise.wb.gov.in/eRetail/Page/eRetail_Login.aspx and feed in all your details. Place your order and you will receive your alcohol home delivery.

4. Punjab

Punjab, you can have alcohol home-delivered, but your limit is capped at 2-litres. In the state, each neighbourhood will have an allocated delivery window and only registered delivery persons, with proper IDs and curfew passes will be allowed to deliver in an authorised vehicle. Also, no more than five people will be allowed to gather in front of a liquor store, which will remain open only from 9 am to 1 pm.

5. Chattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh government has also set up a website as well as an app for its citizens in the green zone. You need to log on to https://excise.cg.nic.in/csmcl/ or download the CSMCL Online on Google Play Store. Follow the drill of registering yourself, feeding in your details and placing orders as per your choice. You can order upto 5 litres of liquor and a delivery charge of Rs 120 will be levied on each order.

6. Odisha

Residents of Odisha can place their orders at the state’s Beverage Corporation Limited website. Log on to https://osbc.co.in/Onlinepay/RetailLogin.aspx and first register yourself. You can then place your orders there.

6. Maharashtra

Before you get your hopes up, let us just break the bad news to you. While the Maharashtra government has allowed for the e-token system for liquor stores, these services will not be available in Mumbai, which is the worst-hit Coronavirus hotspot in the entire country. The same can be said for Thane, Aurangabad and Nagpur. The alcohol home delivery system will begin in the state starting Thursday. For now, people can log on to http://www.mahaexcise.com/ and register themselves. Once you’ve fed in all the details, you will receive an e-token for the shop closest to you and a time slot for when you can go and collect your order. Only people over 21 years of age can apply for this token and a cap of 12 litres has been placed for all orders. Reports suggest that an improved and sophisticated system will come into place, starting Thursday and depending on its success the government may look into opening services in Mumbai as well.

So far, only these states have allowed the selling and home delivery of liquor. More states are expected to also comply with this order. When the government first opened liquor stores on May 4, 2020, almost every state in the country saw huge amounts of money pouring in due to the excise duty levied on liquor, giving a much-needed kickstart to the economy that has been cash strapped since the lockdown began. The Supreme Court on May 8, 2020 also sided with the continued sale of liquor in all states through home delivery methods.
